Magic Card Trick: After Drinks (Whisky)

Goal: Audience is given two cards at random.  They may look at them, but you (the magician), shouldn’t see them.  The spectators will insert the card back into the deck, and without shuffling, the magician will throw the deck onto a chair.  Beyond comprehension, the magician will somehow manage to pick up the two cards selected earlier by the audience and can hold them smartly in front of flabbergasted audience members.

Note: This trick is really fantastic and it is very simple to perform!    You must take great care, because the trick is “detectible” by audience members.  You should, as a skilled magician, be able to get away with it most of the time.

Performing this Trick: This is a trick of the mind…

 - You should prepare the deck a head of time in this manner: select 2 cards from different suites, but of the same colour (for example: the three of hearts and the six of diamonds).  These are the cards you are going to give to the audience.  Next, pick the “opposites” of the cards: the six of hearts and the three of diamonds.  These are the cards you will use to fool your audience.  Next, put the the opposite cards at the top and bottom of hte deck – six of hearts on top, three of diamonds on bottom and both of the “real” cards on top.

 - Without too much explanation, deal the the two top cards out, face down.  Let the audience (hopefully drunk or not paying very much attention) look at them.  Next, let them insert the cards back into the deck.

 - Ensure that they can see that you aren’t doing anything to the deck.  Hold the deck with your thumb on top and your fingers on the bottom.  Swing the deck back and forth a few times (just make sure you don’t accidently reveal the bottom card!).  For entertainment you might count 1, 2, 3. and then throw the deck into a chair (or something where the cards will be easy to pick up).  As you are throwing the deck, ensure that you hold on to the top and bottom card with your thumb and middle finger.  Immediately  hold the cards up for all to see (and, of course, be amazed by).

Tip 1: It helps if you position yourself so that your audience doesn’t turn their heads around to watch where you threw the cards.  You should be quite close to the chair you are throwing the deck of cards into, so that you can quickly draw their attention back to the two cards you held on to.

Final Note: They picked the three of hearts and the six of diamonds, but you, however, are holding the  three of diamonds and the six of hearts.  It is extremely RARE that anybody notices.  This trick can be performed many more times and to better avail if your audience is drunk…  ;D
